Interesting video was put out describing the paper De Sarno et al. in which lithium administration at pharmaceutically attainable doses reversed the mouse model of multiple sclerosis. Click here for link to video.

Strange and wonderful patent was issued last week, #7,560,102, which if we understood correctly, is teaching that immunization against neural antigens can actually help in acceleration of healing after injury. Speaking of interesting science, the Vacanti brothers were granted #7,560,275 covering mammalian spores that can act as skin stem cells !

Viacell (now Perkin Elmers) was issued a composition of matter on their cord blood derived unrestricted somatic stem cells (USSC), 7,560,280, which seems to be a pluripotent adult stem cell.

In the news, a paper was published describing that regenerative activities of stem cells inside injured discs seems to be associated not only with the stem cell differentiating, but also providing trophic factors to stimulate endogenous cells in the disc.
