2008: The year in Molecule Pages

In 2008, we published 101 Molecule Pages on signaling proteins
ranging from G-protein-coupled receptors to E2 SUMO conjugating
enzymes. The top five most popular Molecule Pages published this year
were Vav2, Integrin alphaL, mTOR, PTP1B and Rab8a. We also added new
links to external databases in our Automated Data section to the
Pathway Interaction Database, GEO and ArrayExpress. Thanks to our
authors, reviewers and readers for your support and interest in the
Molecule Pages over 2008. We look forward to another successful year
with many new publications in 2009!

IMMUNOTHERAPY: DESIGNER SIRNA
A short interfering RNA (siRNA) has been designed that acts as a
potent antitumor agent not only by silencing the expression of the
anti-apoptotic gene Bcl2 (B-cell lymphoma 2) but also by triggering
the innate immune receptor RIG-I (retinoic-acid-inducible gene I) to
induce an antitumor immune response.

GLIOBLASTOMA: STOP ACTING SO IMMATURE
In humans, PTEN mutations are typically found in high-grade primary
glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), whereas TP53 mutations are more common
in secondary GBM; however, tumors in mice lacking both Pten and Trp53
in the CNS bear a striking resemblance to primary GBM in humans.
