Harvest stem cell treatment shows some success
Harvest Technologies Corp. said it generated promising clinical data
using adult stem cells to treat a disease that can lead to non-
healing wounds and gangrene.
The Plymouth, Mass.-based company announced progress regarding a
German clinical trial on Tuesday.
The trial used a patient's own stem cells taken from bone marrow in
the hip to treat end-stage peripheral vascular disease, a severe
obstruction of the arteries that can lead to intense pain, non-
healing wounds and gangrene in the limbs.
Harvest said the trial produced some improvement in blood supply and
general gains in quality of life.
Harvest presented the data at the 74th annual German Society of
Cardiology in Berlin.
The company, which was founded in 1995, is privately funded and
employs 60 people. Harvest is also pursuing a clinical trial in the
United States for its treatment, using what it calls its BMAC System.
