Localized H3K36 methylation states define histone H4K16 acetylation
during transcriptional elongation in Drosophila

Dirk Schübeler and colleagues report that dimethylation and
trimethylation of Histone H3 Lysine 36 (H3K36) have distinct
chromosomal localization and that their methylation states rely on
different enzymes. The analysis also discovers a cross-talk between
H3K36 methylation and H4K16 acetylation.

An acetylation/deacetylation cycle controls the export of sterols and
steroids from S. cerevisiae

This paper describes a novel mechanism to cope with excess or toxic
sterols. Acetylation/deacetylation of sterols is demonstrated in
yeast, but the conservation of functional enzymes in humans suggests
that this might be a more general mechanism for detoxification of
sterols that do not support membrane functions in metazoans.
