Thrombin for stem cell self renewal

View this message online Hello manoj kumar valluru, Really neat patent issued last week, #7,501,281, which teaches how to induce self renewal without differentiation of neural stem cells by treatment with thrombin and other agents.  The idea being that there are numerous inactive growth factors on these stem cells that can be activated with various proteolytic enzymes.  Another patent, #7,501,115, covers aspects of Cytori's closed systems for purification of adipose stem cells. In the news, a study was published showing the migratory effect of SDF-1 on hair follicle progenitors.  This is interesting since usually SDF-1 is thought of primarily as being a chemoattractant for hematopoietic stem cells.
