Selective stem cell mobilizers

View this message online

Hello manoj kumar valluru,

Last week a paper was published reporting selective mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, and mesenchymal stem cells by using combinations of VEGF, G-CSF, and AMD-3100.

An interesting patent, #7,473,425, covering the synergy between HGF and G-CSF for treatment of ischemic limb disease such as critical limb ischemia.

Geron continued building its patent fortress with the issuance of #7,473,555 covering methods of generating mature hepatocytes from pluripotent stem cells.

Although we don't see too many patents coming from academic institutions taking an "out of the box" claiming approach, #7,473,414 from the Wistar Institute covers the means of identifying compounds that mediate wound healing by examing a mouse model they established.

Remedies for ischemic disease

Patent Number: 7,473,425

This patent essentially covers the combination of G-CSF with HGF, together with a clinically used pharmacotherapy, for the treatment of ischemic disease of a limb.  Classically it has been difficult to induce therapeutically significant angiogenesis using single angiogenic compounds.  Some companies are[Read More]

Different mobilizers for different stem cells

London, UK -

While the human body does not have the regenerative capacity of a salamander, there are endogenous regenerative mechanisms that exist in the human.  For example, bone marrow progenitors are known to mobilize after situations of tissue injury, the idea being that they contribute to the healing process.  This is...[Read More]
