CUX1
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/en6a0Xztnp0H2W0B7X20Em

CUX1 (Cut homeobox 1) designates a group of protein isoforms that
bind to DNA and function as regulators of RNA polymerase II
transcription. CUX1 can function in either transcriptional repression
or activation, depending on the isoform and the promoter.
Cux1-/- mice display phenotypes in various organs including curly
whiskers, growth retardation, delayed differentiation of lung
epithelia, altered hair follicle morphogenesis, male infertility,
and are deficient in T and B cells.

THERAPY: COMBINE AND CONQUER
Choosing the best combination of therapies for patients with
progressive or non-responsive forms of cancer is enhanced by
understanding the PTEN-Akt-mTOR and MAPK signaling feedback loops
that lead to the evasion of therapeutic responses in cancer.

The 2008 Nobel Prizes in chemistry and physiology or medicine have
been announced. Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Tsien share
the Nobel prize in chemistry for their discovery and development of
green fluorescent protein (GFP). The prize in physiology or medicine
was awarded to Harald zur Hausen his work on the human papilloma
virus (HPV) and its role in cervical cancer, and
Francoise Barre-Sinoussi and Luc Montagnier for their discovery of
the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1), which causes AIDS.

Signaling Job of the Week
-----------------------------
Postdoctoral Position
Employer: German Cancer Research Center
Location: Heidelberg, Germany
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/en6a0Xztnp0H2W0B7YB0E4

A postdoctoral position is available at the German Cancer Research
Center in the Systems Biology of Signal Transduction Division.
The successful applicant will establish a mathematical model of
PI3-kinase and MAP kinase signaling in primary hepatocytes.
This model will then be used to predict strategies that will correct
oncogenic alterations in Ras and MAP kinase signaling.
