== IN THE SKY THIS WEEK ==
The Last Quarter Moon is Monday 22 September. Earth is at Spring Equinox on Tuesday 23 September. Venus and Mercury are easily seen together in the early evening sky, with dimmer Mars below them, and the bright star Spica above forming a distinct triangle with the two bright planets. On Saturday 20 September Spica forms a line with Venus and Mercury. Venus then heads even higher in the evening sky, leaving Mercury behind. Jupiter is the brightest object above the eastern horizon in the evening, and its moons look great in binoculars. Comet A1 McNaught can be seen in binoculars in the constellation of the Centaur. On the morning of Thursday 25 September Western Australians can see the Moon pass over the Beehive cluster from 5:00am onwards. This event is best seen in binoculars or a telescope.
