C5a receptor
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/emFt0Xztnp0H2W0Bzdd0EV
The complement factor 5a receptor (C5aR) is a G protein-coupled
receptor (GPCR) that has an important role in the innate immune
response. C5aR is activated by the potent chemoattractant C5a. Upon
activation, the receptor binds to heterotrimeric G proteins, which
leads to inhibition of adenylyl cyclase, activation of MAP kinase,
phosphoinositol accumulation and calcium mobilization. Targeting C5aR
appears to be a promising avenue for novel anti-inflammatory
therapeutics.

CELL SIGNALLING: HOW TO LEAD A DOUBLE LIFE
The focal adhesion protein kindlin-2 binds to integrin tails and
regulates integrin bidirectional signaling.

TUMORIGENESIS: COMBINED EFFORT
Oncogenic mutations perturb the expression of many downstream pathway
genes, and researchers have now shown that blocking these synergistic
changes in gene expression can suppress tumor formation.

NATURE NEWS: BOYZ 2 PIPETTEMEN
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/emFt0Xztnp0H2W0BzU80EW
Compare Networks Production Group (CNPG) aims to put the 'sex' back
into 'Scientific EXperiments' with a music-video viral marketing
campaign. The ads feature tongue-in-cheek spoofs of boy bands singing
about Eppendorf's epMotion system and a PCR machine from Bio-Rad, and
include lyrics such as "Girl you need epMotion (yeah girl it's time
to automate)" and "PCR, when you need to find out who the daddy is
(who's your daddy?)".

Postdoctoral Position
Employer: US Food and Drug Administration
Location: Bethesda, Maryland
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/emFt0Xztnp0H2W0Bzdm0Ee
A postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Molecular
and Developmental Immunology at the US Food and Drug Administration.
Ongoing research projects are focused on the role of Fc receptor-like
(FCRL) proteins in tumor development and autoimmune diseases, with an
aim to identify tumor-associated viruses and oncogenes that perturb
the expression of FCRL genes.
