Quantitative proliferation dynamics and random chromosome segregation
of hair follicle stem cells

Employing an elegant new quantitative approach to study the
proliferation dynamics of hair follicle stem cells in vivo, Tudorita
Tumbar and coworkers address two important and controversial concepts
in stem cell biology. Their data make a strong case in favour of the
infrequent division model, but not for selective chromosome retention
in stem cells.
