== IN THE SKY THIS WEEK ==
The New Moon is Wednesday 4 June. The evening sky to the north is enlivened by Mars and Saturn. In the North-west Mars is in Cancer. Saturn can be seen near the bright star Regulus high in the northern sky. During the week Mars moves towards Saturn and Regulus. Jupiter can be seen as the brightest object above the eastern horizon in the evening, and its moons look great in binoculars. Comet Boattini can be seen easily in binoculars reasonably high in the early evening sky. The comet is brighter than predicted (it is a distinct fuzzy ball, like a globular cluster), and may become visible to the unaided eye under suburban skies very soon.

SCIENCE SHOW - Phoenix has landed
Saturday 31 May, 12.05pm & Monday 2 June, 7.05pm RN
After the crushing failures of previous Mars missions we now have a winner. Phoenix has defied the odds to land perfectly and will soon begin sampling the sub-surface of the Martian landscape. Jonathan Nally reports on the latest achievements. We also examine revolutionary carbon fibres being used at Deakin University to build the next generation of planes and cars to make them stronger, lighter and more efficient.

ALL IN THE MIND - When words and science meet
Saturday 31 May, 1.05pm, & Monday 2 June, 1.05pm RN
Stefan Merrill Block's debut novel, The Story of Forgetting, is a clever tale about familial Alzheimer's disease. Spanning time and place, it's the surprising story of a gene, a fantasy land where memory is absent, a hunchback, and one boy's quest to understand the disease stealing his mother's mind. And, Canadian emergency physician, Dr Vincent Lam, takes us inside the lives of four young doctors in his compelling debut, Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures. Both writers join Natasha Mitchell in discussion from the 2008 Sydney Writers Festival.

THE PHILOSOPHER'S ZONE - Mai '68
Saturday 31 May, 1.30pm & Monday 2 June, 1.35pm RN
In May 1968, the universities of France and Germany erupted. There were protests, there were sit-ins, there were riots and, among students of philosophy, there was a total rejection of the older generation. Jean-Paul Sartre found himself outflanked from an unexpected direction: the left. We look at the consequences of 'les evenements' of 1968 on two influential thinkers: Paul Ricoeur, who suffered first hand at the University of Nanterre, and Michel Foucault, who lived through much graver events in Tunisia.

HEALTH REPORT - Health controversies surrounding milk
Monday 2 June, 8.30am and 8.05pm RN
A1 and A2 are names used to identify different proteins found in milk. The idea that A1 milk may be detrimental to health has been around for a while. Some suggest that there is a link between A1 milk consumption and Type 1 diabetes and some other illnesses. Professor Boyd Swinburn from the School of Health Sciences at Deakin University in Melbourne discusses his review into A1/A2 milk claims for the New Zealand Food Safety Authority. Also on the program - an alternative treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.

IN CONVERSATION - Spreading the light
Thursday 5 June, 7.35pm
The research began at Macquarie University and now promises to make an impact world wide. LEDs: Light Emitting Diodes are a way of illuminating without the inefficiencies of traditional bulbs - which are essentially intense heaters pretending to be lights. Giles Bourne of the company BLUGLASS tells how they took a bright idea in physics and turned it into a business venture. Can this be a model for university-based innovation?
