The cortex and hippocampus of wakeful rats contain increased levels
of GluR1, CaMKII, NR2A and GSK3beta compared to rats that were

Mice that lack the Trpm5 ion channel are unable to detect sweet or
bitter tastes. Despite this deficiency, Trpm5-null mice favor sugar
water over unsweetened water, suggesting that mice can detect
calories without relying on their taste buds.
