Featured Article
------------------------
PLATELET AGGREGATION: KINDLIN' INTEGRIN ACTIVATION

The platelet protein Kindlin-3 activates integrins by binding to
their cytoplasmic beta tails upon blood vessel injury, thus allowing
efficient platelet aggregation and preventing blood loss.

Vav2
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/ejcM0Xztnp0H2W0BpgB0Eb

Vav2 works as a guanosine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) that
activates different members of the Rho/Rac family of GTPases. The
activity of Vav2 is tightly regulated by upstream protein tyrosine
kinases, protein tyrosine phosphatases and, possibly, intracellular
second messengers. Vav2 has been shown to be important for the
assembly of cytoskeletal responses, the activation of serine/threonine
kinase cascades and the induction of gene transcription events.

ALLERGY AND ASTHMA: WHAT 'DRIVES' IL-4 VERSUS IL-13 SIGNALLING?
The way in which the IL-4Ralpha-IL-13Ralpha1 receptor heterodimer
affects different responses to IL-4 versus IL-13 has now been
explained by both structural and kinetic data.

VACCINES: TBK1 MEDIATES DNA VACCINE IMMUNOGENICITY
TANK-binding kinase 1 (TBK1) mediates the adjuvant effect of
DNA-based vaccines by increasing their immunogenicity independently
of the Toll-like receptor signaling pathway.

TUMOUR SUPPRESSORS: WHERE TO BEGIN?
Biallelic loss of the tumor suppressor Neurofibromatosis type 1 (Nf1)
promotes tumorigenesis in differentiated Schwann cells, but not in
neural crest stem cells.

NATURE NEWS: EPILEPSY DRUG SAVES RATS FROM SEIZURES
http://ealerts.nature.com/cgi-bin24/DM/y/ejcM0Xztnp0H2W0BpgJ0Ej

The anticonvulsant drug ethosuximide, which blocks T-type calcium
channels, is used to control epileptic seizures. Scientists have now
shown that ethosuximide can also suppress the development of seizures
in a rat model, and thus halt progression of the disease.
