The Wellcome Trust Centre for Stem Cell Research exists to provide
outstanding scientists with the opportunity to undertake ground-
breaking research into the fundamental biological properties and the
biomedical potential of stem cells.
Applications are invited for the post of Tissue Culture Technician.
The post is part of the core tissue culture facility at the Wellcome
Centre for Stem Cell Research. You will facilitate the smooth running
of a large and busy tissue culture facility, provide technical
support for the research groups using the facility and assist with
training new staff and students.
You will monitor the stock level of consumable items in the tissue
culture rooms and re-order and re-stock as required. You will carry
out routine housekeeping tasks including maintenance and cleaning of
the tissue culture rooms and equipment, waste disposal, autoclaving
and glass and plastic washing. You will prepare media and complex
solutions and carry out quality assurance testing. You will culture,
irradiate and freeze cell lines to provide feeder cells for the stem
cell lines used by the researchers in the Centre.
You may be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a biological
science. Applicants must have previously worked in a laboratory and
be able to work independently and efficiently. Good record keeping
and excellent communication skills are necessary.
Experience of tissue culture and/or providing technical support in a
scientific environment is desirable; however full training will be
provided.
