The EMBO Journal Table of Contents alert Volume 27 Issue 1

Make up your mind with Talking Points

There are often two sides to a story in scientific research, yet the
forum for debate can be limited. Outsiders who have developed their
own ideas or methods may have trouble publishing in journals that set
the tone for the field. EMBO reports hopes to open up debates in
difficult fields of research and on topics of social relevance with
its Talking Point articles. Find out more at

Table of contents

Volume 27, Number 1 (09 January 2008)

In this issue...

RSC regulates nucleosome positioning at Pol II genes and density at
Pol III genes

The yeast SWI/SNF-family RSC complex modulates access of transcription
factors by remodeling chromatin. Analyzing changes in chromatin
structure upon RSC inactivation, Bradley Cairns and colleagues have
discerned distinct RSC roles at Pol II- and Pol III-transcribed genes
in vivo.

Neural recognition molecules CHL1 and NB-3 regulate apical dendrite
orientation in the neocortex via PTP[alpha]

CHL1 regulates stereotypically oriented neuronal growth in the brain's
caudal cortex. Using mouse models, Zhi-Cheng Xiao and colleagues
provide molecular insights into this patterning mechanism, suggesting
CHL1 to function in a signaling complex with a contactin and a protein
tyrosine phosphatase in vivo.
