[StemCells] Re: Australians consider New guidelines to protect egg donors

In a message dated 11/4/2007 5:23:57 A.M. US Mountain Standard Time,
Go_Fitz@holtbiz.com writes:

It's not long after passing legislation to use only clinic embryos
countries expand to getting eggs from women. In particular, poor
women around the globe are lured by egg brokers - or beaten into
submission by their husbands - for very little money and even less
information on the long-term heath risk.

Drug induced egg donation includes an increased risk of clotting
disorders, kidney damage, and ovarian twisting Ovarian stimulation in
general has been associated with serious life threatening pulmonary
conditions in FDA trials including thromboembolic events, pulmonary
embolism, pulmonary infarction, cerebral vascular accident (stroke)
and arterial occlusion with loss of a limb and death. Risks of the
egg retrieval, include death, respiratory or cardiac arrest, brain
damage, paraplegia, paralysis, loss of function of a limb or organ,
hemorrhage, allergic reaction, and infection. Bleeding or other
injuries which occur during retrieval may require an invasive
surgical procedure to correct and could affect future fertility.

Why would 90,000 women a year go to 450 fertility clinics in the USA to have
a baby if this were all true?
