India Edition, Issue 1

"Don't search for scientific information, Scirus it!"

Perdeep Kumar, Director, Elsevier RSO India

On behalf of the Elsevier Team in India and the Scirus team in Amsterdam, welcome to the first issue of the Scirus Searcher e-mail newsletter, India Edition.

Scirus, the FREE, science-specific search engine has evolved significantly since its inception in 2001. Scirus has progressed to become the most comprehensive science-specific search engine - indexing more than 450 million science-specific items including peer-reviewed journals, patents, pre-prints and theses & dissertations stored on institutional repositories, on a state-of-the-art and end-user customizable platform.

We are also excited to inform you that Scirus now indexes 5 institutional repositories from India, namely, the institutional repositories of the OpenMed, NIC, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela and the Indian Institute of Sciences. We are in discussions to include other repositories too, thereby providing a dynamic discovery channel for Indian scientific output and for showcasing it to researchers globally.

Scirus' popularity among research and library professionals in India is growing. Our research shows that over half of the attendees of Elsevier's Library Connect seminars were aware of Scirus and have used it at least once. We also invite you to start using Scirus, and find out why it is the favourite science-specific search destination for many researchers across the globe.

Kind regards,

Perdeep Kumar
Director, Elsevier RSO India
