TRENTON, N.J. - A state Superior Court judge was scheduled Monday to weigh a request by abortion opponents seeking to halt New Jersey's upcoming referendum on whether the state should borrow $450 million to fund stem cell research for 10 years.

In response to "Panel discusses stem cell options," The Daily Targum's frontpage story from Sept. 20, I wish to take minor exception to how your reporter, Cait Callahan, contextualized a comment I made at Wednesday's conference. Much as I admire Ms. Callahan's reporting, I believe a more accurate rendering of what I said was possible.

An anti-abortionist group, the Legal Center for Defense of Life, which based in Morristown, filed a lawsuit last Tuesday challenging the New Jersey Stem Cell Research Bond Act of 2007. The act, which is intended to be part of the Nov. 6 ballot, asks for voter endorsement before the state borrows $450 million to fund stem cell research for the next decade.
