| Please join us on Thursday evening, October 18, 2007, for our next HSCI Stem Cell Public Forum: Stem Cells and the Media. This event will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Radcliffe Gymnasium (second floor). Light refreshments will be offered.
Almost all news about science and medicine reaches the public through the filter of the media. So how well does the media - in its myriad forms - explain the stem cell story, a thick stew of important basic scientific studies, often unproven claims, contentious politics, and deeply-held religious beliefs?
On Thursday, October 18, four journalists intimately familiar with the stem cell story will discuss the challenges and difficulties of covering this, the most important life-sciences story of the decade.
Our distinguished panelists are: Mary Carmichael, General Editor for Health & Science, Newsweek Gideon Gil, Health and Science Editor, The Boston Globe William Saletan, National Correspondent, Slate Dan Vergano, National Correspondent, USA Today, and 2007 Nieman Fellow
Our moderator is B. D. Colen, Senior Communications Officer for University Science at Harvard.
This event is open to the public and is offered free of charge, but registration is required. Register online at www.hsci.harvard.edu/node/1038 or by calling Maureen Herrmann at 617.496.6647.
We look forward to seeing you there!
