Stem Cells Used in New Breast Enhancement Procedure
Posted Aug 6th 2007 2:01PM by Joshua Fruhlinger
Consider this: Over 300,000 breast reconstruction surgeries were done
in 2006. Of those, over 14,000 were done to remove breast
reconstruction due to some sort of complication. Infections form
silicone are relatively common, as is pain from saline. Clearly,
breast augmentation is an imperfect surgical art.
A solution may be in store from a company called Cytori Therapeutics.
The process, called "Celution," uses stem cells to stimulate natural
growth. The procedure uses fat cells from the patient's own body,
transferred via liposuction. Normally, transferred fat cells die as
they are taken out of the blood stream. With Celution, however, the
transferred cells are re-introduced to the system with stem cells.
The procedure has already been approved in Germany, but doctors have
not begun recommending the procedure just yet.
