In Caernorhabditis elegans, homologue pairing is mediated by specialized
regions near one end of each chromosome in conjunction with zinc finger
(ZnF)-bearing proteins. Families of repeated sequences that are enriched
within these regions have now been identified. By recruiting their cognate
ZnF-bearing proteins, these regions promote pairing and synapsis.

SASPense and DDRama in cancer and ageing pp921 - 923
Senescent cells alter their microenvironment by secreting a growing
collection of factors, a phenomenon termed the senescence-associated
secretory phenotype (SASP). Cellular senescence is often the result
of nuclear DNA damage fuelling a chronic DNA damage response (DDR).
Upstream elements of the DDR cascade are necessary for full blown SASP,
and additional crosstalk occurs between the DDR and cytokine secretion.

TGF-beta mediates epithelial-mesenchymal transitions (EMT) during
tumorigenesis but the molecular mechanisms driving this effect have
been unclear. The transcriptional repressor SNAIL1 and the downstream

A regulatory pathway involving Notch1/beta-catenin/Isl1 determines

TIP5, a subunit of NoRC is acetylated by MOF and deacetylated by SIRT1 at

RNA, leading to altered heterochromatin formation. TIP5 acetylation can
be modified by changes in metabolism.

MicroRNA MiR-17 retards tissue growth and represses fibronectin

A case of cervical spine meningioma following etanercept use in a patient
with RA

This Case Study presents a 70-year-old woman who was administered etanercept
to treat rheumatoid arthritis that was active, despite therapy with
conventional DMARDs. During follow-up, the patient's symptoms improved but
she developed weakness and numbness in her arms and legs. Investigations
revealed a mass in her cervical spine, which was histopathology confirmed
to be a benign meningioma.

The incidence of tonsillar cancer in the UK has doubled over the past
decade and the discovery of the human papillomavirus in tonsillar cancer
specimens has been hypothesized to be the cause. We discuss and propose

Radiotherapy: Prophylactic cranial irradiation for small-cell lung cancer

into models of cancer using systems pathology. Integrating multiple data
from the clinic to make models sufficiently robust to be of practical use

important part of standard therapy in multiple cancer indications.
Although most adverse effects of VEGF inhibitors are modest and
manageable, some are associated with serious and life-threatening
consequences. This Review examines the toxicity profiles of anti-VEGF
monoclonal antibodies and small-molecule inhibitors and considers the
potential mechanisms of the adverse effects, risk factors, and the
implications for patient management.

Eleven years disease-free: role of chemotherapy in metastatic BRCA2-related
breast cancer

Lasting complete remission from widespread bone metastases is rare. The
case of a 41-year-old premenopausal woman diagnosed with right-sided
infiltrating ductal breast carcinoma and BRCA2 mutation is described.
She received high-dose anthracycline-based induction chemotherapy followed
by autologous bone marrow transplantation with high-dose alkylator and
platin-based conditioning regimens. The authors comment on the reasons
for this unusual and sustained complete remission from widely metastatic
breast cancer and the patient-specific factors that may have contributed
to this outcome.
